New Installation of Residential Air Conditioning and Heating

Every home is as unique in its design and style as the homeowners that live there. Whether you are building a new house, or adding on to an existing one, cooling and heating needs should be approached in the same manner. At Allen Kelly & Co. Inc we take pride in designing a new heating and air conditioning system to meet your specific needs. The design of a system has always been important in order for your home to be comfortable. With the new “higher efficiency “ equipment available today and homes being built tighter than ever before, the design is critical.

Anyone that has ever tried to build a house or have an addition done their home will tell you that there are a million decisions to be made. One of the most important, yet often overlooked, is the heating and air conditioning system. General contractors are always concerned about the type of cabinets, the style of crown molding or the choice of countertop materials. With the comfort system and related ductwork, a phrase that often applies is “ out of sight, out of mind “. Homeowners and contractors alike are often surprised by the amount of space that we heating contractors need for ductwork, piping, venting and equipment. The building codes require us to place equipment in areas that allow it to be serviced. The ductwork must be sized to ensure that we can deliver adequate airflow throughout your new living space. Venting, gas piping, drain lines and refrigerant lines must all be installed in a manor that is safe for the occupants of the home and will provide maximum efficiency of the equipment.

Many of the homes and addition projects being built today are based on plans that have not been drawn by traditional architects. While these projects result in beautiful homes, they rarely make allowances for the space required for the heating and cooling system. The result is often a system that is less than adequate, or rooms end up areas that have to be “ boxed in” to accommodate ductwork for supply and return airflow.

An air conditioning system serves two purposes in your home. The first and most obvious purpose is to cool your home. The second, and most important purpose is to dehumidify the home. A system that is undersized will obviously not cool your home. A system that is oversized can be even worse for your home. An oversized system will cool the home so quickly that it does not run long enough to remove the humidity in your house. As everyone in North Carolina knows, even as the sun goes down on a summer day and the air gets cooler, if the humidity is high, it is really uncomfortable. Excessive humidity can be more than uncomfortable. It can lead to many problems in a home. To learn more about the effects of humidity on a home visit: http://www.epa.gov/mold/moldresources.html

Many factors must be considered in choosing the air conditioning equipment and air distribution duct design for your home. Our comfort consultants will study the design and layout of your home and also consider the way you intend to use your new living space.

Our comfort consultants will perform load calculations to determine the size of the equipment needed to heat and cool the space properly. Based on these calculations, they will then determine the size of the ductwork needed to distribute the air properly and suggest the location and routing of this ductwork. They will then design a system to satisfy your specific needs. Just because the neighbor across the street finished of an attic the same size as the one you a considering does not mean that the air conditioning needs will be the same. His house faces a different direction than yours. Are there windows that also face a different direction? That would have a significant impact on equipment sizing. If he has two bedrooms and bathroom upstairs and you intend to use the new upstairs as a living room or a theater/movie room, you will have very different airflow requirements.

The comfort consultants at Allen Kelly & Co. Inc will help you make your living space a truly comfortable environment. They will help you make choices concerning what efficiency and type of system will best serve you. This may be a TRANE natural gas or propane gas furnace with a high efficiency air conditioner, a high efficiency conventional heat pump, or even a FLORIDA HEAT PUMP geothermal system.

Once the system has been designed, our installers will make the design come to life. The heating and air conditioning system is like a heart for your home. It pumps warm and cool air throughout your home just like your heart pumps your blood. When our installers bring the new system to life, you will have a true “ living “ space that is comfortable and healthy.

Come Home to Comfort, come home to an Allen Kelly & Co. Inc comfort control system.
